After graduating with an Economics Degree from the University of California, San Diego, Brett started his career in institutional asset management and then alternative asset management where those he served included pensions, endowments, foundations and wealthy families. After witnessing the pain and fear his family, friends and clients experienced through the late 2000’s recession and its aftermath, it became clear to Brett that for people to overcome the challenges and uncertainties they face to truly have a successful financial experience, there is much more involved than sophisticated investment strategies and tools.
To ensure he can identify, implement and manage what is necessary in each unique client situation, he has advanced his professional education by earning the Chartered Life Underwriter®, Chartered Financial Consultant®, and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Accredited Investment Fiduciary® designations. Ultimately, his philosophy and approach has been shaped by his belief that the people he works with deserve to be heard, understood, respected and appreciated by a professional who is authentic, candid and follows through on their commitments.
Born to first generation college graduates from the Mid-West, Brett and his brother were raised in Southern California with a focus on being well rounded individuals through a balance between academics and extra-curricular pursuits. They were instilled, from an early age, the importance of treating all people with dignity and respect regardless of their social, economic or financial situation. One of the most impactful experiences of Brett’s life was through an 8-year battle with a degenerative intestinal condition known as ulcerative colitis. Through years of rotating medications, treatments, therapies, diets, injections, doctors, nurses, hospital stays and surgeries, the core values that direct his personal and professional life were solidified: faith, gratitude, humility, integrity, taking action and following through on commitments.
Equally important is the fact that Brett began dating his wife Courtney as the disease reached its most aggressive stage. The experiences they shared through that season, which was at the very beginning of their relationship, created an incredibly strong bond between them that continues to this day. In addition to the priority they place on spending time with family and friends, Courtney and Brett enjoy supporting local non-profit organizations, traveling and just about any outdoor activity.
